There are plenty of models of seats that a person can buy but seats are broadly divided into eight kinds. However there are some crossovers from one bike seat variety to the other. Typically racing seats should be thin and slim because the person riding the bike is hardly going to be seated on the bike but whenever he does sit it has to be comfortable. The movement of the racer has to be kept on mind along with the body type of the racer. Racing is a serious profession and the racer has to be comfortable so that he can ride efficiently.
A fine example of a racing bike seat is a gel bike seat which is available in the performance category, mountain biking category, and they are also available for casual riding. But there is no compulsion that a person should use a racing bike seat only for the purpose of racing. The biker may choose to use any seat that he or she is comfortable with even while racing. Usually racing bikes have their handlebars lower than the seat. So a racing bike seat which is lightweight and is sleek and narrow will be comfortable for most people.
There are some racing bike seats which are extra long and these are built especially for people who ride the rough terrains and bad roads, their riding is generally very vigorous. When you are speeding on a rough terrain you will be constantly bouncing on and off the seat so the seat has to be gel based and so that it acts like a cushion while you are on the rocky terrains. Mountain biking also comes into this category. But racing can be done on any kind of terrain and there are no limitations. So racing bike seat has to fit the needs of the racer.
